Admiral Inspire Choir
To say the Admiral Inspire Choir have performed at some impressive venues is an understatement! Since the launch of the choir, the dedicated members have played at The Royal Albert Hall, Bafta, Millenium Centre and The Lyric Theatre to name but a few. However, one particular gig was a highlight for the choir members who are keen supporters of the Garnwen Trust.
The Garnwen Trust was created in memory of Admiral staff Alex and Beth who tragically died in 2007 and are raising money to build a Respite Centre in Afan Argoed Country Park. The whole Choir was nervous, but excited about the prospect of performing in front of family and friends. They sold over 400 tickets for the event and planned to treat all of their supporters to an amazing night out! They started the performance with a flash mob of Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now and continued with favorites Price Tag & Take Your Mamma. After a short interlude they carried on with Umbrella, Valerie and Lean On Me. Then they sang “Only the Good Die Young” in Tribute to Alex and Beth and during the song images of Alex and Beth screened behind the choir. It was a very poignant and emotional moment for all concerned. They finished off the performance with Empire State Of Mind, Proud Mary and their very own Born Free Medley and encored with Somebody to Love and even managed to gain a few new choir members, who unexpectedly joined the choir during the encore performance of “Proud Mary”! The families of Alex and Beth were very touched as they managed to raise over £2200 for the Trust, meaning that they have almost reached their target to start the project!
Comments from people who attended:
‘We had an amazing time - we were both dancing and singing away at the front and didn’t miss the opportunity to join in at the end. It was lovely to see friends and colleagues being involved in something they feel so passionately about!’
‘It was the first time I had heard the choir and I have got to be honest I thought they were fantastic! It was not at all what I was expecting! The quality of the singers and the type of music they were singing was like being at a professional concert. Only Men Aloud look out!!!! Admiral Inspire certainly inspired Tiger Tiger and all who supported the night. We should all be very proud to be working in an organisation where we encourage individuals to excel and develop using all available resources, going that extra mile and providing groups to get together and perform through music. An emotional evening with a class act made the whole night a huge success - This is what makes Admiral stand out and continues to go that step further.’
The night was a huge success for the choir and enjoyed by all who attended. Their first Album ‘Don’t Stop Us Now’ was released in December and has already raised nearly £6000 for The Garnwen Trust.
The next big gig for the choir is as part of the pre-match celebrations prior to the Wales V Italy 6 Nation match on March 10th. They will take the pitch to belt out classics such as Sospanfach and the Italian National Anthem. Be sure to tune in and show your support for both the Choir and the Boys in Red.
